"Friends. Sisters. Mothers. Professors. When women affirm women, it unlocks our power. It gives us permission to shine brighter." Elaine Welteroth
Who Are We

This powerful quote reminds me of the women who I have encountered throughout my life. Women who have mentored, shaped, and enriched some of my life experiences. Women who have championed my causes and celebrated my achievements.

When we celebrate the indelible impact women have made throughout history, it serves as a reminder of the selfless sacrifices made to ensure that women rights are not trampled on, and that their voices are heard. I am grateful for the women who forged a path, that made me the person I am today. Through them I know the importance of providing girls with the resources to soar and help girls become the best versions of themselves.

At Girl Power Rocks, Inc., we are helping to create the next generation of powerful women. We are providing our girls with the tools to lead the charge for a successful future, that will translate to a successful tomorrow. The legacy created by past women pioneers is what continues to propel women’s rights forward. I am so thankful for the work that women have done and are continuing to do – as I know through them we are “Improving the World One Girl At A Time!”

Student Spotlight

Girl Power Rocks student highlight of the month is...

Lakendra.

Lakendra is a 9th grade student, who has been active in Girl Power Rocks programming for the past eight months. One of Lakendra’s most memorable Girl Power Rocks experiences is her recent college tour field trip to Washington, D.C.

Admiring her mother for teaching her how to be the best person she can be, Lakendra aspires to be a nurse when she grows up, as she wants to help people get and feel better. This excellent student is committed to getting good grades, and her favorite subject in school is Social Studies. Lakendra is a very confident person who loves football, dance and watching movies. The last book she read was by Anne Schraff, Until We Meet Again.

When asked if she could have a superpower what would it be; she responded, “Flying!”

We are thrilled to honor this amazing girl and know that she is destined for greatness!

Sponsorship Spotlight

Convey Health Solutions

On October 22, 2022, Girl Power Rocks kicked off what we plan on becoming a yearly event, The Brunch & Swing Weekend. Our inaugural weekend attracted 16 sponsors and over 350 participants, with Convey Health Solutions leading the way as the Visionary sponsor for the Brunch & Swing Weekend.

Convey Health Solutions was introduced to Girl Power Rocks by Stephanie Jones. Stephanie, as many of you know,  is a valued member of the board, serving as Chair of the Fundraising and Sustainability Committee, Chair of the Brunch & Swing Committee and President at Convey Health Solutions..

Since we’ve started our preparation for Brunch & Swing 2023, I thought I’d sit down and have a chat with the folks from last year’s biggest sponsor: Convey Health Solutions.

Amy Shook is the Senior Vice President for Legal and Human Resources at Convey. We recently talked about the company -- which specializes in developing software and systems designed to increase efficiency in the healthcare sector – and how the company is dedicated to supporting charitable efforts.

Amy told me that Convey got its start in 2001 in Sunrise, Florida and is now headquartered in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale. Convey, a family of companies, averages 3,000 full-time employees across the United States and the Philippines. A centerpiece of Convey’s efforts is Miramar, a purpose-built platform that serves government-sponsored health plans. Convey’s clients enjoy the ease of a single system that provides support for member services, enrollment, reconciliation, premium billing, data analytics, administration of supplemental benefits, and more.

Amy said that Convey is always looking at ways to support diversity both in its workforce and the community. Just last month Convey held its inaugural Women’s Summit. Nearly 100 women from across the enterprise came together for a multi-day event filled with professional development and networking opportunities. Convey also sets an intention to support their local communities. This was evident last year by the attendance of the Convey team at each of our Brunch & Swing events: the Day Party, the Sunday Brunch, and the Golf Tournament.

As a sponsor driven nonprofit there are two challenges we face: getting companies and organizations to give and then getting their employees to participate. So, a big “thank you” to Convey Health Solutions for doing both!

NEWS

During Girl Power Rock's most recent Jazz Under the Stars fundraiser to raise money for Mama Hattie's House, we received our single largest donation in our organization's history of $5,000,000. This extremely generous donation was facilitated by City of Miami’s CRA Director James McQueen and the City of Miami Commission Chairwoman – District 5 Commissioner Christine King. This donation brings the Mama Hattie’s House Capital Campaign Fund nearly halfway to its goal of $20,000,000, with a target date for breaking ground in December 2023.
