Annual It Takes a Village Conference
WE HAD A GREAT TIME - March 26, 2011
Girl Power introduced the “It Takes a Village” Conference to Miami over seven years ago. Its concept came from the old African proverb that suggests, “It take a village to keep our communities safe, protected and spiritually grounded.” Since then, the conference has grown. Girl Power, along with our community partners and supporters, celebrated and elevated the Liberty City community through workshops, performances, demonstrations and showcasing the arts and crafts of local vendors.
Our conference theme – PAY IT FORWARD – spoke to the concept of repaying the benefits you have received to someone else, thus creating positive change from the inside out. Our headquarters hosted over 250 girls, their families/guardians, mentors, community stake holders, and conference goers. We had a great time while educating and promoting community empowerment and healing.
Invited Guest Speaker: Honorable Carrie P. Meek
Location: 6015 NW 7th Avenue, Miami, FL 33127

The 6th Annual It Takes a Village Conference featured guest speaker, actor/director Malcolm Jamal Warner. He was wonderfully engaging and his words were of great encouragement to the girls, women, mothers and daughters who attended this event.
