GP! Success Stories
LaQuandria Wimbley

I am currently attending the Girl Power program. For those who may not be of aware of Girl Power, Girl Power is a program that any girl can attend. It relieves stress and it gives you peace of mind… and that's no lie!!! But as you all may know, that's not what I thought in the beginning when I first started the program.

You see, I was court ordered to this Girl Power place and I DID NOT want to go. When I first met Ms. Kerry I gave her a negative vibe and Ms. Kerry looked at me and told me, "Remember, I didn't put you here. You put yourself here!" It was at that very moment, it's strange, but those words were words of encouragement. So I changed my perspective of Girl Power because boy, boy, boy, I had so many excuses not to go like, "Man I don't even know these other girls and I don't even want to meet them; and this program is so stupid, it's taking time away from my FLAGETT squad, and my personal life." My step dad told me, "LaQuandria, don't judge the book by its cover because you will grow to like it, like how you do everything else."

My first day at Girl Power was a memorable one. It was great. The girls treated me as if they knew me. Ms. Kerry didn't treat me as an outcast and after I met Ms. Ashley and Ms. Farah that was it. They both made my day at Girl Power.

To Ms. Thema, thank you for keeping us away from trouble and other diversions. You always stay on top of things when it comes to us, such as making sure we act lady-like and carry ourselves like young ladies. You say what you mean and you mean what you say and I thank you for that Ms. Thema. You would always reward us for doing a great job no matter what the cost and you plan great activities for us as well. So Ms. Thema, on behalf of myself and the girls from Girl Power, we want to say, "Thank you for everything." That's why we will always love and cherish you in our thoughts. And to Ms. Kerry, Ms. Ashley, and Ms. Farah, "Thank you for your love, your support, your kindness as well as your devotion. Thank you!!!" Please do not forget the cause; the reason we are all here is to support Mama Hattie's House.

Thank you.
