Girl Power! Success Story

Ever since May 2007, I have been a totally different person. Before starting Girl Power I was a little girl that cared nothing about anyone but herself.

When I first began attending Girl Power, my attitude was very negative. I decided I wasn't going to attend some stupid summer camp. Well, my first day of camp went by really slow. As the summer progressed, I began to realize that the program was actually fun. The rest of the summer was a breeze. Near the end of the summer I began to feel sad. I didn't want to leave Girl Power or any of my friends I had made that summer. Luckily, I learned that Girl Power has an after-school program during the school year. Boy was I happy! I couldn't wait for the school year to begin.

The after-school program was a lot different from the summer program. We had classes that taught us how to better ourselves. My favorite class was B.A.R.T (Becoming a Responsible Teen). The class was so much fun. Ms. Tashara taught us about abstinence and the many different STD's. I really learned a lot.

Another thing I learned about Girl Power was the mentoring program. I love my mentor, Ms. Deborah. She was like a mother to me. We went many different places.

Girl Power has taught me many different things including how to turn my negative attitude into a positive one. Without Girl Power I don't know where I would be. My attitude would probably be the same. Girl Power has truly changed me for the better. During my three years here I have made many friends, received many awards, participated in numerous shows, met many wonderful people and much more. I can go on forever about how much I love Girl Power. I wish I wasn't growing up, only because I want to be a part of Girl Power forever. I could never imagine leaving Ms. Ashley, Ms. Thema, Ms. Farah, Ms. Kerry and Ms. Mimi.

As I end this success story, I want to say Girl Power will forever have a place in my heart. Looking back on the many memories I shared with Girl Power, I sit here and think, "Wow, where would I have been without Girl Power guiding me every step of the way."
