GP! Staff - In Their Words
Melonie Burke
Instructor/Assistant Program Director
Before I started working at Girl Power!, I worked as the Vice President of Marketing for a local company.
The best part about my job is using my God-given talents.
The one piece of advice I'd share with the girls is… Respect can open many doors.
What do I love most about being a "girl"?
Dressing up!
Kerry Bruce
Case Manager and Instructor
Before I started working at Girl Power!, I worked in the juvenile justice
system with juvenile offenders and also as a case manager for victims
of child abuse.
The best part about my job is empowering and changing the lives
of the young girls that cross my path.
The one piece of advice I'd share with the girls is… Their
DESTINY is not a matter of chance but it will be based on the CHOICES
they make along the way. DESTINY is not something to be waited for but
something to be achieved! So work hard because hard work pays off!
What do I love most about being a "girl"?
I love being a positive role model to the younger generation of girls
that I work with as well as the girls in the community. I also love being
a girl because I love shopping for beautiful shoes!!!
Rashida Campbell
Administrative Assistant
Before I started working at Girl Power!, I was an account manager.
The best part about my job is meeting all of the different personalities of the program participants and watching them evolve as well as the fact that I'm working for an African American organization that is making a difference in our community.
The one piece of advice I'd share with the girls is… Seek the right knowledge and understanding.
What do I love most about being a "girl"?
I love being able to pick and choose when I want to use my "girl
power". Sometimes it's best to step back and let someone else do
something when they assume you can't get it done because you're a girl.
Other times you have to step in and let people know that you can get something
done although you're a girl… Get my drift?
Shawntae Sanders
Clerical Assistant
Before I started working at Girl Power! 9 months ago, I was interning at Girl Power! through an organization by the name of Adult Mankind. Girl Power liked my hard work and decided to bring me aboard. Yay me!
The best part about my job is not only being able to utilize my diverse skills, but being appreciated for them. To see the smiles on our girls’ faces and know we took part in putting them there is a wonderful feeling.
The one piece of advice I'd share with the girls is… Every single action you take is the equivalent of one paint stroke. So if you want to paint a pretty picture of your life, make sure to use careful elegant strokes.
What do I love most about being a "girl"?
I love that we are the center of the universe. We keep everything grounded and in its place. We remember the birthdays, the anniversaries, and the school plays. We are the ones who everyone comes to cry on and hear the words, “Everything will be alright.” We are the gentle nursing ones who give light and life to what might otherwise be a dull world. We’re that rose growing through the cracks in the pavement.
